The status shows which stage an operation is at. Created means the payment has only been registered, Processing means confirmation is under way, Completed means the money is in, Hold means the amount is reserved pending your decision, while Cancelled and Error mean the operation did not happen.
What each status means
- Created. The payment is registered — through the widget, the API or a link — but the buyer has not completed checkout.
- Processing. Confirmation is under way at the buyer bank: 3-D Secure, anti-fraud, authorisation of the amount. An interim state.
- Completed. The payment went through and will be included in the next payout. The 54-FZ receipt is generated.
- Hold. Funds are reserved on the card but not captured: awaiting your confirmation or release.
- Hold at provider. The same hold, but on the side of the payment partner that processes the operation.
- Cancelled. The operation stopped before capture — nobody owes anything.
- Error. The payment failed: a bank decline, an expired session or a failure on one side.
How statuses reach the store
The dashboard shows the status of every operation, with filters by period and method. With a REST API integration the store learns about a status change from a webhook, and if the notification did not arrive, by fetching the status by payment number: it is never lost. Ready-made platform modules update the order status themselves. In an export the status is a separate column, handy for counting the share of successful payments.
When the money counts as received
- Only in the Completed state: other states do not guarantee arrival.
- Hold is not revenue: the amount can still go back to the buyer.
- Shipping on a Processing status is risky — confirmation may never arrive.
- Only Completed operations go into a payout.
Example
The buyer taps Pay and a Created payment appears in the dashboard. Seconds later it moves to Processing — the buyer is entering the bank code. If the code goes in, the status becomes Completed, the store receives a webhook and can ship. If the buyer closes the page, the payment stays in Processing and then moves to Error when the session expires — only then is it safe to offer a retry, otherwise there will be two charges.
The full set of methods is on the accepting payments page. What to do when a payment is stuck in processing is covered separately.
