Does a merchant need a licence to accept payments? | MULENPAY

An ordinary store needs no licence to accept payments: the financial side is handled by licensed providers and banks, while the merchant simply sells their goods. Permits may be required not because of payments but because of what exactly you sell.

When permits are still needed

  • Licensed activities: healthcare, education, insurance and the like.
  • Restricted goods: alcohol, medicines, jewellery.
  • Handling other people money: collecting payments for third parties has separate terms.

What onboarding checks

  • That the site matches the declared activity.
  • That permits exist if the category requires them.
  • Who actually receives the money: the seller of the goods or an intermediary.

Which documents onboarding requires is covered separately.
